Hindrances to Healing: Medications

Hindrances To Healing In The Bible

There are many hindrances to healing mentioned in the Bible. In my latest book, “You Can Be Healed: Exposing the Roots of Sickness, Illness and Disease” we take a look at 13 biblically based obstacles that can greatly delay or even totally block your God-given promise of healing. Today I’d like to briefly focus on one of those hindrances to healing.

You can be absolutely assured that God wants to move on your behalf and release healing virtue, but sometimes we limit His ability to do that. Oftentimes, we create barriers to our blessings, and we don’t even realize it.

People Perish For Lack Of Knowledge

But here’s the good news… if we are led by the Spirit of God (who is the Spirit of Truth), He stands willing and ready to help us remove the roadblocks so we can be free to receive our healing. Some of these stumbling blocks to healing are obvious, some more subtle. And many times we can be ignorant of the devices the devil may use to keep us in bondage to our infirmities. Let’s face it, if we knew what was keeping us from our healing, we would be one step closer to receiving it, right? The reason so many good authentic Christians are living their lives in pain and discomfort day after day, is because they simply haven’t gotten the revelation of what’s required of them for the breakthrough. (God usually requires us to participate in the healing process. My last article, How to Expedite Your Healing, talks about that. If you missed it, you can read it here.) Again, it’s worth repeating — if we had the information needed for our breakthrough, we would have already received it. The Bible says it this way, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). God reminds us again in Isaiah 5:13, “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge.” Apparently, what we do not know can hurt us! We must be in constant pursuit of biblical knowledge.

Be honest. If you were struggling with some kind of sickness, illness, or disease that just doesn’t want to go away, and someone told you of a miracle cure, you would likely try it. If someone gave you information that could lead to your healing, you would pursue it. Well, God has already given us everything we need to walk in divine health. And, the answers to all our questions regarding healing are found embedded in the Word of God. God had already provided that “miracle cure” for our sickness — it’s called Calvary! (1 Peter 2:24, “by whose stripes you were healed.”) Notice the tense used in that verse? It says, “you were healed.” Past tense. It’s already a done deal. Jesus already did His part with that brutal beating He took and the crucifixion, now it’s up to us to study and learn and gain the knowledge needed in order to receive our healing. God wants us to have no doubts that bodily healing was part of the atonement. And if it’s already been given to us but we’re still sick, then we need to figure out why. Our mission is to discover what the hindrance is. God has given us a free pass for healing, but sometimes the road to redeeming that pass has barricades.

Is Your Medication Keeping You From A Healing?

One of those roadblocks to healing that I have become keenly aware of as I minister to sick people is medication. Question: Is your medication keeping you from a complete healing? Don’t answer too quickly. And certainly don’t throw your medication out the door! Read on…

Just so there’s no room for misinterpretation, let me clearly state that I am a firm believer in doctors and medication. They certainly have their place in the lives of humanity, including Christians. Furthermore, Christians should never feel any guilt or condemnation for seeking medical help when needed. In fact, the medical community did a great job of keeping me alive 30 years ago when I was on my deathbed with cervical cancer, at a very young age. I’m grateful for everything they did. They prolonged my life long enough for me to receive a medical miracle from God. So what’s the problem then, you may be asking.

Allow me to share an excerpt from “You Can Be Healed,” my latest teaching resource…

The bottom line is this: Doctors treat people – Jesus heals them! So many times, after visiting the doctor and coming away with prescribed medications we stop praying for that medical condition. With the aide of medicines we are able to manage the symptoms and carry on with life. We become experts at coping. But God never called us to cope, He called us to conquer! The underlying medical condition is still there, only it’s being masked with expensive prescription drugs.

And therein lies the problem. The medical community has provided a temporary solution to our symptoms through medication, and over time, we can become comfortable with that if we’re not careful. So often, when we begin to feel better we start trusting in the medication more than God. And eventually we stop praying for that medical condition. That’s why we see people on heart medication for the rest of their lives, or blood pressure medication for decades, or pain pills for years.

Prescription medications are great (for a season), but they can rob us of a complete and total healing. And they steal much more than that. They can also rob our finances. Have you thought about the exorbitant high price of some medications these days? Even with prescription drug insurance, co-pays can be through the roof, causing financial stress and hardship for many. Additionally, many medications have undesirable side effects and may even cause irreversible long-term damage. It’s hard to miss the myriad of TV commercials advertising litigation against drug manufacturers for causing harm or premature death. None of these things are God’s best for you. God desires that you seek medical attention and treatment when necessary, AND continue to pray and believe for complete and total healing, thereby being delivered from a steady diet of doctor visits and expensive drugs. It’s easy for medications to become so routine for us that we forget God wants us to conquer the underlying problem and not simply cope with the symptoms.

Two Kings, Two Diseases, Two Different Results

There’s a great biblical example of this from the Word of God that I share in my new teaching resource. Here’s a brief excerpt…

“King Asa had become diseased in his feet, and his malady was very severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians. So Asa rested with his fathers; he died in the forty-first year of his reign” (2 Chron 16:12-13).

On the other hand, of King Hezekiah it is written, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you, And I will add to your days fifteen years” (2 Kings 20:5-6).

Two Kings — two different diseases — two differing attitudes — two different results. One King placed his trust and hope for healing in the Lord, and was not only healed but God added another fifteen years to his life. The other King was dependent upon physicians to the exclusion of the Lord, and lost his life.

Where Is Your Trust?

Do you see the difference here? It all boils down to this: Where does our dependency and trust lie? In doctors and medications for a temporary solution, or the power of God for a permanent cure? By all means, continue taking your medications according to doctor’s orders. But also continue to pray for complete healing of the underlying condition that is causing you to take those meds in the first place. We’ve probably all been in this situation at some point in our lives, having to take medication for what ails us. And that’s okay. But today I’m encouraging you to believe beyond that — to believe those medications do not have to be a permanent part of your life. Allow the Holy Spirit to identify the root of your problem in order to bring permanent change and freedom to your life. For whom the Son sets free, is free indeed! (John 8:36)

Do you know someone who has been taking medication for a very long time? Encourage them to never give up hope for a complete healing. Perhaps you’re taking medication for an ailment right now. Prior to every dose you take, pray over it. Thank God for providing it for you (many people in the world cannot even get the medications needed). Pray that God would bless it. Pray against any negative side effects. And above all else, pray for complete and total healing of that condition so you are able to be released from all medication! As you do this, I believe your faith will increase more and more until the manifestation of your healing is certain!

WARNING: Never discontinue any medication without your physician’s approval. When your healing has manifested, allow God to confirm it to the doctor, who in turn will release you from the medication.

QUESTION: Have you ever allowed medication to become a hindrance to your healing? Perhaps you need someone to agree with you in prayer for total healing in order to be set free from medications. It would be a privilege to join my faith with yours in agreement. Prayer requests may be left in the comment box below or through the Contact Me page.

Hello Agnaldo. Thank you for visiting sozo4all. It would be my honor to add these names to our prayer list. We truly believe in the prayer of agreement. The Holy Spirit is omnipresent, meaning He is present everywhere at once. As I am in my “secret place” praying and interceding on behalf of others, I know the Holy Spirit can be touching them a million miles away! My own testimony of a miraculous and instantaneous healing is confirmation of this. God loves you and your family and wants to make you whole! Blessings to you!
