How Many Miracles & Healings Did Jesus Perform?

How many healings and miracles did Jesus perform when He lived on earth? That’s a common question many people ask as they study the life and ministry of Jesus. Perhaps someone has asked you that question. Perhaps you’ve wondered that yourself. When searching for the answer to that and every spiritual question we always go to the Word of God. The bible will never mislead us. But for this query regarding the healings and miracles of Jesus the answer is probably not what you think, nor likely what you have heard.

Inevitably, we search through the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and count up all the healings and miracles that are mentioned there. That’s a great start, but whatever number you came up with is vastly incomplete. And here’s why…

How Many Days of Jesus’s Life are Recorded in the Gospels?

Most people answer that question by saying 3 1/2 years. Yes, it’s true, the bible tells us that the earthly ministry of Jesus lasted for 3 1/2 years. But how many days of that time period were actually documented? Greek bible scholars, (those who study the New Testament in its original Greek language), say at a maximum there were 53. That’s because there were 53 primary events recorded, but many of those events occurred on the same day. So, if you count the actual days involved, it was somewhere between 23 and 27!

In other words, it took four gospel writers to record 23-27 days of the earthy ministry of Jesus. He did so much in those few amount of days, it took four books of the bible (the gospels), to document it all. And here’s another astounding bible fact: we do not have a record of one complete day of the ministry of Jesus, only a little snapshot into each of those 23-27days. The disciples of Jesus, (the gospel writers), only recorded fragments of what Jesus accomplished. I don’t know about you, but I was blown away when I first learned that jaw-dropping statistic.

The life of Jesus was so overflowing with the miraculous and of healing power, the bible couldn’t contain it all. So how many miracles and healings did Jesus perform? We find that answer in John 20:30:

“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book.”

And again in John 21:25:

“And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.”

So, how many miracles and healings did Jesus perform in His earthy ministry? We simply do not know. Scripture says we do not have a complete record of all the signs, wonders, miracles, and healings that Jesus did.

Jesus is Still Healing!

And here’s some more great news: Jesus is still healing and performing miracles… through you and me! Jesus transferred His healing power to every Christian believer and commissioned us to engage in the ministry of healing, just as He did. John 14:12 says:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

When is the last time you prayed for someone’s healing? When is the last time you laid your hands on a sick body and released healing virtue into it? Jesus wants to use YOU to heal the sick! The gifts of healing and working of miracles are released by the Holy Spirit and are available to every believer. The ministry of healing is one of the greatest evangelistic tools the Church has been given. I encourage you to begin operating in it today!
