Grandma Teaching Grandson Biblical Principles
Grandma and Grandson!

Teach Your Children Biblical Healing Principles

To me, being a grandma is one of the greatest joys in my life.  I am blessed to have been an integral part of my toddler grandson’s life since birth.  At a minimum, I see him two or three days a week.  Increasingly, I’m realizing the importance of training him up in the things of God, even at his tender age.  I’ve been speaking to him about the reality of God, even before he could speak!  In our family, it’s especially vital for me and hubby to engage in this impartation since his mommy and daddy do not attend church nor see the need for spiritual guidance.  My grandson is only three, and yet, the infiltration of an ungodly world is evident at times.  Trust me, if we as Christians do not train up our children in the way they should go, a secular world is happy to do so.

Proverbs 17:6 says, “Grandchildren are the crown of the aged” (ESV).  It is an honor for me to teach my grandson spiritual things.  He loves learning, and I love pouring into him.  Who knows, perhaps he’ll tread in the footsteps of his grandmother and advance the vision of Sozo Ministries International to serve his generation.  Should the Lord tarry, I would love to have a long line of descendants who are teaching, preaching, and imparting the healing virtue of God to a sick and dying world.  In my candid testimony, “The Bride Wore Black,” I chronicle the cutting off of a generational curse in my life — and I’m believing for generational blessings moving forward.  I want a beautiful family picture of linked and mutually blessed generations.  Part of that blessing is walking in divine health and an anointed healing ministry for my future generations.

Today, I want to share with you three things about healing that I’ve observed from my toddler grandson.

  • It’s Never Too Early To Start

Although children have different intellectual capacities for learning, one thing is for sure — they learn best from observing.  Even before children can talk, they’re constantly watching the actions of those around them.  Babies are watching our every move, and their brains are storing up information regarding our activities and habits.  It’s so important to let them see you living out your faith.  In my household, when hubby stubs a toe, we pray for healing —when I accidentally burn my finger in a hot oven, we pray for healing.  Petitioning God for healing is the very first thing we do for any sickness or injury, large or small.  As we’re applying the antiseptic or band-aid, we’re praying.  It’s just who we are.  We trust and believe God is our healer, whether the issue is pint-sized or life-threatening.  My grandson, Apollo, has been watching us pray for healing since birth.  The biblical principle of healing has been embedded in his brain as an infant.  How do I know that?  Because every time he bumps his head or bangs his knee, he comes to mimi and pappy for prayer!  He’s been doing that since he was crawling.  It’s never too early to start teaching a child about the will of God for healing.

  • He Believes It!

Whenever I pray for Apollo’s boo-boo’s it brings a calm to his anxious mind.  He intently listens to the words of my prayer as I’m asking Jesus to heal him, then I thank Jesus for the healing.  He has never once questioned me about whether or not Jesus will heal him.  He simply, with childlike faith, believes it!  I’m careful not to speak words of doubt. I don’t want him hearing words like “if” or “but” or “perhaps.”  In the Bible, Jesus healed everyone that came to Him requesting a healing touch.  He never said “no” to any of them.  There were no “if’s, and’s, or but’s” about it!

I realize that as Apollo grows, there will be plenty of people, even other kids, that will introduce him to uncertainty, doubt, and deceit.  That’s why I covet the opportunities I have now to teach and instill the faith of God in him.  And when he is older, I pray and trust he will remember and rely upon that which his grandmother taught him.  There’s a wonderful example of this in the Bible.  In 2 Timothy 1:5 the Apostle Paul was commending Timothy (a very young Pastor) regarding his faith and heritage.  Paul said, “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.”  Paul was speaking about a multi-generational blessing that was passed down through three generations, the gift of faith.  Timothy learned about the things of God from his grandmother and mother.  Additionally, 2 Timothy 3:14-15 tells us that Timothy learned the Holy Scriptures in his childhood.  Parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, may we teach the generations after us the truth of God’s Word, with no implied reservations.  They will grow up believing they can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens them!

  • Your Kids Will Want To Pray For Others!

Not only does my grandson ask for prayer for every little bump and bruise, he also loves praying for other people.  Last summer, with our any prompting whatsoever, he climbed up into bed with his momma who was scheduled for a breast biopsy the next morning, and proceeded to lay his little hands on her and prayed for her.  “Dear Jesus, thank you for mommy’s boobs!”  Out of the mouth of babes!  (I taught him to always begin every prayer with thanksgiving.)  His mommy (who is not a practicing Christian or church-goer) thought it was very funny.  Despite being laughed at, with all sincerity he continued with his petition for healing for his mommy who had a mass on her breast.  A few days later, we received the good report… no malignancy!  Hallelujah for the faith-filled prayers of children!

Last week, once again, Apollo prayed for healing for his momma.  During a routine stop at CVS drug store, mommy had severe chest pain accompanied with pain in her left arm.  She immediately went to the blood pressure monitoring station in the store.  The outrageously high reading confirmed there was indeed an issue.  Once again, my grandson laid hands on his mommy and prayed for Jesus to heal her.  He didn’t care that he was in a public place with shoppers all around him.  Three-year-olds aren’t easily embarrassed.  He prayed the prayer of faith wholeheartedly, and wasn’t concerned about who heard him.  Our next stop was the Urgent Care Center directly across the street.  When we told the receptionist what the symptoms were and showed him a screen shot via the cell phone of the blood pressure reading, he said she needed to bypass the Urgent Care physician and go directly to the nearest hospital emergency room.  Testing included an EKG, X-rays, a CAT scan, blood-work, urine sample and multiple blood pressure readings. According to the test results, everything was fine, and the symptoms were gone as well.  Six hours later, Apollo’s mommy was sent home.  Coincidence?  Or, perhaps God answered the prayer of a three-year-old who loves his mommy very, very much!

A few days ago Apollo told me his daddy hurt his toe going down the steps.  I asked what happened next.  He said he prayed for his daddy’s toe to get better.  Wow!  I’m so proud of my grandson.  Could it be that God is ministering to Apollo’s mommy and daddy through him?

Claim Divine Health for Future Generations

I don’t know about you, but I’ve labored too much in the Lord to allow Satan and his cohorts to destroy my grandson and future generations.  Many generational curses have been broken, and I desire to keep it that way!  My written testimony, “The Bride Wore Black” reveals some of those breakthroughs.  The curse of cancer, becoming pregnant out of wedlock, illegal activity… all have been broken.  But I cannot just hope it will stay that way.  I have to do my part to instill these biblical principles to the next generation or my offspring may risk being cut off from the blessings.  If I want my descendants to walk in the blessing of divine health, I must teach and instill in them the biblical principle of healing.  I don’t want them to settle for sickness, just because it’s the way of the world.  I want them healthy, and God wants them walking in divine health.

Deuteronomy 6:7 says, “you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”  This scripture is talking about teaching our children the commandments and principles of God so that they too can walk in the blessings of God.  My grandson is a blessing from God.  But I’m not satisfied with just having a grandchild.  I want to know that he’ll grow up loving God, walking in the power of God, and affecting his generation for God.  I want him to do so much more than I’ve done to advance the Kingdom of God.  I want him to take the biblical principles of this healing ministry and run with them, bringing healing and deliverance to the nations.  Yeah, those are some pretty high expectations… but hey, I serve a really BIG God!

It’s your turn to sound off!  When it comes to the Word of God, what teaching methods for toddlers and young children works best for you?  Our readers would love to know.  Please reply in the “comment” box below!
